A Bridgeport Wedding in the Rain

Meghan and Gage Garcia’s wedding is one to remember. The day started out beautifully in a one road Northern California town. As Lauren and I pulled up to the venue the temperature was already climbing into the 80s and I was preparing myself for yet another hot and sticky day of work. Nothing about this wedding ended up occurring as expected.

The details of this wedding were incredible and so thought out. Gage’s Mom shared a special moment with her soon to be daughter-in-law as everyone was getting ready and I was honored to be able to witness the love that is bringing these two families together. Gage’s Mom explained that she didn’t have a family heirloom to pass on as a wedding present so she went out and bought a beautiful bracelet in hopes of starting this tradition with Meghan. Let’s just say the entire room was moved to tears.

Groomsmen can be really hit and miss when it come to photos. But these men killed it in the cooperation department. You could also tell how invested they were in making sure Meghan and Gage’s big day went as smoothly as possible as the weather turned bad.

A first look slipped in between downpours and it is one of my favorite to date.

The rain took a break for 30 minutes so the ceremony could commence and with the earth smelling freshly watered and the rain still coming down against the backdrop of these incredible mountains Meghan and Gage got married.

Not going to lie I was worried about how harsh the lighting would be during the ceremony when we first saw the venue. But with the storm clouds blocking the sun and the backdrop of the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range these pictures could not have turned out more beautiful. Plus, it will take more than a bit of rain to stop those smiles!

The theme of the day was slipping important moments in between rainstorms and wind gusts. So Meghan and Gage shared their first dance surrounded by the people they loved and at the end of the day started their lives as a married couple unstoppable by less than desirable weather.

The part I love about photography is that it is meant to memorialize a moment in time. Who cares if these pictures match my regular sunset sessions or not? Meghan and Gage will forever remember their wedding day, the weather, and have some beautiful images to serve their memories well for years to come. I get excited when my photos don’t always look the same because that means I’m doing my job right.

When it became clear the rain was going to continue late into the night Meghan and Gage packed up their desert table and headed to the local bar. Surrounded by friends, family, and a biker gang that was in the midst of their initiation weekend they cut their cake and partied the rest of the night away. It was a beautiful end to an otherwise out of the ordinary wedding day.
